PBL - Term 1
This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big
question was: How can we build community through our actions?
First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include
kindness and build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were
organised into groups where we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we
considered how we could spread community and kindness through our entire school
community. We decided that we would offer something that was free and would make
others happy.
We created an action plan and talked with the Paiaka teachers. We asked them to look
out for children showing kindness and then give them the tokens that we had made.
The tokens were for rippa rugby/touch, infected and ball elimination. We would then take
\those good children out and play those games.
For our final product our group decided to do games for the children in Paiaka Hub 3
times a week. The teachers said yes so we went on from there
How did our action build a sense of community in the school? By getting to know lots
of the Paiaka kids better and not just the people in out hub.
I contributed by playing the teams, helping the younger children who didn’t know how
to play, talking with the teachers in Paiaka Hub, making certificates, putting stickers
on them and organising the gear.
I think the PBL might impact on others because fitness is fun but it is also important -
it can be boring unless you look at it with a positive mindset. The Paiaka children had
a good time and enjoyed it.
What I learned about working with others that it is not all about you and that you need
to have a role and that you can’t do everything - you share the workload.
What is your favorite sport and why?
